No matter what type of hair you have you want to protect it so that it stays healthy, and keeps you happy. While people with ethnic hair will want to do different things for their hair than people with thin blonde hair, and people with naturally curly hair will do different things with their hair than those with pin straight hair, there are still some basics that everyone needs to know about hair care.

How often do you wash your hair? What kind of products do you use? What is your styling routine? All of these things actually matter when it comes to your hair health.

Using Heat For Styling

Some people may notice that when blow dryer your hair it can make it look lifeless and dull. That’s because heat can damage your hair. It dries out the natural oils in your hair, and on your scalp, which can lead to all sorts of issues, including breakage and split ends.

When it comes to using devices with extreme heat, women do a lot of it. From flat irons to curling irons, you strive for the perfect hair. No matter your hair type, you can risk burning your hair and causing damage to it if you don’t use these devices properly; and if you have ethnic hair, you may find damage can happen even quicker.

Washing Your Hair Daily

While you may feel like washing your hair on a daily basis, it’s not always the best thing to do for your hair. Washing your hair removes the natural oils that help keep it healthy and shiny, which is why people usually use conditioner afterward. However, conditioner isn’t as good for your hair as its own natural oils.

Try only washing your hair a couple times a week, and if you need something to freshen your hair up in between washings try a dry shampoo.

How To Keep Your Hairy Shiny

Never skip conditioning when you wash your hair. It helps replenish some of the oils you’ve washed out. You may also want to purchase some sort of natural oils, like Argan oil, that can help put some shine back in your hair and make it feel softer. They are good for all types of hair.

The Importance Of The Haircut

How often you need a haircut can depend on your hair length, and how healthy your hair starts out. Shorter hair styles may need to be cut more often, like every six weeks, while longer hair styles may need to be cut less often. If you notice split ends, get a trim.

Getting your haircut helps promote healthy hair and it can help keep your hair growing at a better pace as well. If you feel like your hair is growing slower, get a cut. If that doesn’t work, talk to your stylist and maybe even your doctor. Hormones can have an effect on hair growth, and so can stress.
